Case Study - Verifone and Wyless

Background

Verifone is the global leader in secure electronic payment technologies. When Chip and Pin was introduced in the UK, Verifone wanted to introduce mobile electronic point of sale (EPOS) devices for the growing number of retailers who needed wireless mobile devices to use for credit card transactions.

The Problem

In order to bring the products to market, Verifone needed to demonstrate that the devices - and the network over which they communicated - both worked. Further, in order to be accepted, both the devices and the network had to comply with the UK banks' APACS high level security protocol.

In addition, the retailers needed a very fast set up, with no local infrastructure investment.

The Solutions

We provided a dedicated Project Manager and started connectivity trials with Verifone's integrator Commidea which proved the robustness of the network when used with these devices.

Our SIM provisioning process made it possible for them to be activated and managed quickly using our management tools.

Our patented Fixed IP connectivity satisfied all of the security requirements.

The Result

The result was a solution for Verifone that they could take to market quickly and with confidence. Trial and integration was completed inside two weeks.

Trials showed that swipe-to-transaction times were less than 5 seconds, quicker than fixed line equivalents.

Verifone also wanted to deal with one provider and ensure maximum coverage. By working with Wyless they were able to take advantage of coverage from multiple mobile operators and yet manage this through a single management platform.

The Wyless Management platform also simplified provisioning through providing Verifone with the ability to activate and de-activate their SIM’s.
