The yachting industry continues to produce some of the most expensive forms of transport in the World, yet it has been one of the least protected in terms of security.
Pilotfish is a Swedish company that has developed a range of security systems for the yachting industry including C-Pod.
The problem was not just the water. Piltofish needed a wireless data solution. One that would enable two-way communication and offer global coverage. They needed a managed service and wanted to avoid negotiating contracts with multiple operators, in a range of currencies, changing SIM cards from region to region. They also needed the boats to communicate information to their owners via their web interface and by mobile phone.
The combination of our managed service, Fixed IP technology, management platform and global roaming provided the ideal solution. Pilotfish were able to develop their products with the network in place and then manage the connectivity using our management tools.
The result is a product that becomes the yacht's security and tracking system. Owners can monitor the status of their prized possessions via the web or mobile phone. This provides real-time warning not only of theft, but also of other events such as low battery power, high water levels or fire.
"Our C-Pod Product provides yachts with their own security management system allowing boat owners to survey and manage their prized investments via the web or their own mobile phone.
One of the most important factors for the success of this product has been wireless connectivity in terms of mobility and international coverage because the product is sold in many countries and a yacht's capability for ocean going journeys. Ideally, we did not want to have to change the system's SIM card depending upon country. Another important criteria was cost effective connectivity. These were business critical factors for our choice of Wyless as our connectivity provider.
As a company, Wyless has been extremely responsive and customer orientated. This has helped us both in the product development phase when they have supplied us with pilot connections as well as in the "live" phase when the products are being used all over Europe.
Wyless have fulfilled what they promised us in the early phases of the project; to deliver quality connections."
