Wyless, the international wireless data communications group, has signed a deal with ABB Robotics to deliver a remote service which will enable production lines to maintain round the clock operation. Through the new remote service, provided over the Wyless global wireless data network, ABB is aiming to extend the uptime of its installed base of over 160,000 robots and lower the overall cost of ownership through pro-active maintenance and reduction in production disturbances.
The remote service package is based on the concept of logging a robot’s key performance data and sending this remotely to an ABB service center via GPRS technology. The robot will automatically be able to alert the central database, triggering an SMS to the on-call service engineer, who can then immediately access a detailed data error log and quickly identify the exact fault. At anytime and from anywhere, an engineer can verify robot status and access important maintenance information about a robot system by logging into the MyRobot ABB website.
Craig Jessup , Service Technology Manager of ABB Robotics commented, “Wyless provides a unique managed data network which enables us to communicate with our robots anywhere in the world. We have worked with Wyless to integrate its Management Platform into our Remote Service, so we can provide our customers with a reduction in the downtime of their equipment and in onsite maintenance. Our customers can be sure to have the best experts available 24 hours a day and seven days a week.”
Robots play a crucial role in the high productivity and availability of a production line. In order to deliver round the clock service on a global basis, ABB Robotics required a global wireless data network and an internet-based Management Platform , which would enable it to have control and visibility of its network and connections all day, everyday. With Wyless’ managed wireless data network, customers of ABB Robotics will be able to communicate securely and reliably from the robots direct to the service centre. Wyless delivers this global connectivity using a single SIM.
Paul Smith, CEO of Wyless added, “This agreement demonstrates the continuing momentum behind our pioneering growth and our commitment to offering businesses a new managed network for global wireless data connectivity.”
