Ericsson M2M Roundtable Unveiled
Mobile operators agree on stronger role
Wyless Group CEO, Dan McDuffie, a member of this exclusive working group
Broad consensus for the M2M sector was reached concerning the role of mobile network operators (MNOs), standard definitions, subscription portability, and the desirability of open standards at a meeting that included some of the most influential MNOs in M2M as well as Ericsson, Intel, and IBM. The meeting was organized by Ericsson and held behind closed doors at the CTIA show in Orlando, Fla., (USA) in March, and the M2M Zones Newsdesk has gained exclusive first access to notes of the discussion.
It remains to be seen how this small working group might affect the consensus points. Attendees at the meeting also included lead M2M operatives from Kore Telematics, KPN, Telenor Connexion, T-Mobile USA, Vodafone, and Wyless, as well as a representative from the European wireless association, GSMA. The meeting discussion was moderated by well-known M2M industry analyst Robin Duke-Woolley of Beecham Research.
